Careers/Jobs

We have a small, tight-knit team that is always on the lookout for a good set of hands. Our work can be demanding, but we sure make it a lot of fun!

Our entire team is responsible for making sure our customers start and stay happy. All team members support the studio operations (including cleaning the potty and mopping the floor) and work together to maintain a fun & happy environment.

The ideal person will have common sense (if you don't know have it, please do not apply), an outstanding personality, a desire to learn, and one heck of a sense of humor.

If this sounds like you, keep reading!

Primary Duties:

  1. First and foremost, honesty is crucial. If you lie, steal or cheat, stop reading now and forget you ever saw this page. I have a zero-tolerance policy for all of those mean things.
  2. Able to work days, evenings AND weekends (not OR but AND).
  3. MUST love people. If you can't smile and laugh with the kids, the nice people AND the mean grumpy people, you won't cut the mustard. Our customers are special to us and you are expected to make them LOVE it here. You have to guide them through the entire process of painting (or silver or glass) and help them create a piece that they will pink puffy heart LOVE.
  4. Must NOT dislike cleaning and organization. We clean and organize all day long...brushes, palettes, tables, bathrooms, floors, sinks...you name it, we clean it. Keeping the studio nice, clean and inviting and keeping our supplies in their place is critical.
  5. You'll have to learn everything we already know about pottery, silver and glass - FAST. We need someone who picks up information quickly. Stacy is just a little impatient.
  6. Follow the studio procedures! Stacy can be a little bossy and very particular...her studio, her rules. You'll have to learn them, REMEMBER them, and follow them. The handbook is large and in charge.
  7. Sell, sell, sell...not paint, paint, paint. While we do love artistic and creative people (after all, we ARE artistic and creative people), BUT we need someone who can sell first & who enjoys being around other people. Contrary to popular belief, we very rarely paint while we're working. It's actually the last thing we get to do IF everything else is done.
  8. You will be glazing pottery, loading and unloading kilns, and using some minor power tools (OK...a dremel, but it can rip the hair from your head when used improperly – spoken from experience). It can be messy so please don't apply if you don't like to get your hands (and arms, legs, clothes and shoes) a little dirty. The good news is almost everything completely comes out in the wash and all of our paints and glazes are lead-free and non-toxic.

There are so many things to do here...this is just a small sampling. We'll be happy to walk you through the rest once we have our hooks into ya!

Qualification:

  • Happy, smiley disposition? Yes please!
  • Previous experience in retail or restaurant is preferred...even if it was at a completely unrelated job.
  • Flexibility is a must. We need staffing for some days, some nights, weekends and holidays. Weekends tend to be our busiest time, so everyone is expected to work some weekends. While we close on most major holidays, some of those also mean the kiddos are out of school and ready to paint so if we're open, you will be asked to work...and no...there's no time and a half. This is retail for Pete's sake.
  • You need to be able to stand and walk for extended periods (some days we are so slammed that sitting for more than 5 seconds when you get a potty break is a blessing!)
  • You'll also have the pleasure to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the studio, which entails lifting up to 50 pounds (ok...it's mostly kicking and pushing those boxes of clay), bending, stooping, reaching overhead, & twisting (especially on Diva Night when we boogie).
  • Ability to function in a fast, as well as a slow- paced environment. When we have a full studio, you'll be running like Flo-Jo! When it's quiet, you'll have to fill paints, clean even more than normal and still be happy as punch about it.
  • Knowledge of basic math - you will, after all, be handling financial transactions and making change.
  • Ability to operate a computer based cash register without developing an internet obsession. If you can't be next to a computer without checking your email or jumping on Facebook or Twitter, we do not want your application. (As a side note, if you can't go more than 5 minutes without checking your phone for texts, ditto on the no application thing).
  • High School Diploma is required unless you're still in high school and can work nights, weekends, and/or school holidays.
  • Available for the long haul. Unfortunately due to the amount of training involved, we are unable to accept applications for short term or seasonal employees.

If you are interested in joining our team:

  • Fill out an application online and/or email your resume and a handwritten cover letter to
    info@paintingpaw.com
  • Download our employment application, fill it out and bring it to the studio with your handwritten cover
letter. Don't know what a cover letter is? I hear Google is EXCELLENT at finding information.
